Power System Analysis is designed for senior undergraduate or graduate electrical engineering students studying power system analysis and design. The book gives readers a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of power system analysis and their applications to real-world problems. MATLAB and SIMULINK, ideal for power system analysis, are integrated into the text, which enables students to confidently apply the analysis to the solution of large practical power systems with ease.

New to this Edition

The first edition of Power System Analysis, published in 1999, was the first text on power systems that integrated MATLAB and SIMULINK accompanied by a Power System Toolbox for easily performing large-scale practical systems analysis and simulation. My goal has been to provide powerful software tools for students to learn the theory and problem-solving skills for power system analysis.
The second edition follows the same structure as the previous edition, and I still believe that the assignment of computer exercises in parallel with manual calculations can help students to develop a stronger intuition and a deeper understanding of power system analysis. Accordingly, one major improvement that I have made in this edition is to include several Graphical User Interface (GUI) programs that are interactive and menu driven so students do not need to perform the laborious calculations required to solve meaningful problems, thereby enhancing the learning process.
The Power System Toolbox supplied with the book has been revised and expanded. All the programs, functions, and SIMULINK diagrams have been upgraded to run on the latest version of both the professional and student edition of MATLAB (v6.1). All MATLAB files are downward compatible with the earlier versions, except the GUI programs, which have been designed with version 6.1 and will not run on the earlier versions. The list of the new GUI programs is tabulated in Appendix C. Appendix A has been extended and revised to include the more recent MATLAB developments and extended graphical facilities.

Features
The author-developed power system toolbox offers students the opportunity for hands-on experience in the design and analysis of power systems without the burden of detail programming. This ready-access toolbox enables the students to confidently apply the analysis to the solution of large practical power systems. As a consequence of these features, the book is a superior foundation for further study of power systems and advanced analyses. The MATLAB M-files on the accompanying diskette can be copied to the user's computer and used to solve all the examples and the problems at the end of the Chap.s. The toolbox contains numerous interactive functions and practical programs for typical power system analyses that are designed to work in synergy and communicate with each other through the use of global variables. The book is distinguished by the emphasis on the integration and implementation of the computer-aided analysis and design that permeate the entire text. This integrated approach not only fosters the continued use of the computer throughout the curriculum, but supports the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) requirements which specifically call for the use of the computer in the solution of engineering problems. With this book, the files included on diskette, and a suitable computer, users will find numerous opportunities to apply the techniques presented in solving sophisticated and large interconnected power systems with ease. Appendices include an introduction to MATLAB, SIMULINK, and an introduction to relevant control system topics.
